Dr. Barry S. Johnson
BDSc and LDS
Dr. Barry S. Johnson, BDSc and LDS, is the founding member of the team, having been with the practice since 1975. He is now a well-known fixture in the Carlton area along Lygon Street. Captivated by the intricacies of dentistry, he pairs his passion for his profession with great people skills. The result is a diverse practice in which his skill and expertise enable him to specialise in complex problems with an eclectic mix of patients, including local university staff. Barry specialises in the following:
Omar graduated from the University of Baghdad College of Dentistry in the early 90s, and after successfully completing the New Zealand Dental Council Registration Exams, has since worked in many private clinics in Australia and New Zealand.
His experience encompasses all aspects of the profession, and he has a special interest in cosmetic dentistry. Omar is an excellent listener, and believes in patient-centred care. He has an honest approach and prides himself on taking the time to ensure his patients are fully informed. His skills include:

Outside of work, Omar is passionate about his family and sports, especially football and rugby union.
Dr Raghad Awni
Raghad graduated from the University of Baghdad College of Dentistry in the early 90s, and after successfully completing the New Zealand Dental Council Registration Exams, has since worked in many private clinics in Australia and New Zealand with her husband Omar.
Her experience is broad, ranging from pain management to comprehensive treatment planning, and she prides herself on work that combines the science and art of dentistry. She is passionate about providing high quality, gentle, personalised patient care, with a keen interest in minimally invasive restorative and preventive dentistry.
She treats each patient as she would a family member, making sure the visit to the dentist is a positive experience.
In her spare time, Raghad loves to spend time with her family, cook and travel.
Dr Keisuke Yamaoka
Keisuke graduated from University of Melbourne in the early 90s. He has worked for the public sector and private practices in Darwin, Cairns and Melbourne.
He is a restorative dentist who prefers to use minimally invasive techniques and places emphasis on carefully explaining procedures to patients. Originally from Japan, Keisuke is fluent in both English and Japanese.

Dr Haya Awni
DDS (Melb), BSc (ANU)
Haya graduated from The University of Melbourne as a Doctor of Dental Surgery, and has experience in both metropolitan and rural Victoria. She is passionate about delivering honest, high quality patient-centered care.
Haya enjoys all aspects of dentistry, and her friendly and relaxed manner will leave you at ease in the dental chair.
Outside of dentistry, Haya enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring new places to eat and drinking at least one Soy Mocha a day.
Dr Kamal Al Sammarray
Kamal graduated from the University of Baghdad College Of Dentistry in the early 90s, and after successfully completing the Australian Dental Council Registration Exams, has since worked in many private and public clinics in Australia including Monash Health and Royal Dental Hospital as a registrar in the prosthodontic department.
His experience encompasses all aspects of the profession, and he has a special interest in cosmetic dentistry, prosthodontics and oral surgery and particular removal of impacted wisdom teeth. Kamal is an excellent listener, and believes in patient-centred care. He has an honest approach and prides himself on taking the time to ensure his patients are fully informed. His skills include:

Outside of work, Kamal is passionate about his family, watching movies and tennis, listening to music, and loves dining out.
Senior Dental Assistant
Maria Gianninoto, the Senior Dental Assistant, has ably assisted Dr. Barry Johnson in general and emergency dental care for three decades. When not working, health and fitness are her main pursuits, and she is a 1st Dan in karate. She also enjoys movies.
Sophie completed her Bachelor of Oral Health at The University of Melbourne in 2007. Her professional interests include periodontics, tooth whitening and preventative dentistry. Sophie is passionate about assisting and educating her patients so that they may achieve their optimal oral health, in a calm environment.
Sophie's personal interests include exercise and running, dining out with friends and spending time with her husband and daughter.
Jae is our lovely receptionist here at Carlton Dental, who will always greet you with a smile. She has many years of experience in administration and healthcare. In her free time, she enjoys walking her dog, Oreo, and watching movies.
